Tragic Anniversary
Today is the 35 th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. 29 souls were lost that day on Lake Superior ,due to a rogue wave. Take the time today to say a prayer for these men who were lost, and for their families.
This is a risk our fishermen run into every time they venture out themselves, so it hits close to home.

OMG..I am guilty of forgetting, but i remember how I felt at such a young age when it happened..(the same kind of distracted, detached out of tune w/the world..like 9/11) it was my first recollection of such a huge tragedy that just stayed with me. prayers are there :)

HI LISA, I TOO, FELT A GREAT SENSE OF LOSS, WHEN THE "BIG FITZ" WENT DOWN. BUT...... N O T H I N G, LIKE 9/11! NOTHING ON THIS EARTH, WILL EVER COMPARE TO THAT DAY! WHEN I SAW THE SECOND PLANE, SLAM INTO THAT TOWER, I KNEW , IT WAS DELIBERATE! BEING A "BORN & RAISED WESTERN NEW YORKER, I REMEMBER WHEN THE TOWERS WERE BUILT. I NEVER THOUGHT, THAT I WOULD SEE THEM COME DOWN, BY THE HANDS OF A BUNCH OF.... "BLOOD THIRSY BASTARDS", WHO HAVE NO RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE! Granted not close in comparison, but the same detached feeling. i was only 'bout 11 or 12 when the ship went down, didn't even really quite get it...being Midwesterner my whole life..was at work when the towers were being hit, a meat wrapper in the back of local grocer, just got fed bits and pieces not knowing it was real for hours. Later i was totally beside myself by the way it was handled there locally...business just went on as usual and it really really got to me. Agreed tho' no comparison.

HI LISA, YEAH, I AGREE WITH YOU, ON THE WAY IT WAS HANDLED. I THINK THAT LIKE ALL THE REST OF US, WHO ACTUALLY WATCHED IT UNFOLD, EVERYBODY IN LOWER MANHATTAN THAT MORNING, WAS IN TOTAL SHOCK! THEY COULD'NT BELIEVE THAT WE WERE BEING ATTACKED, BY THE WORST ACT OF TERRORISM, THAT THE WORLD HAD EVER SEEN! AND THEN, OBAMA IS ALLOWING A "MOSK", TO BE BUILT ON THE VERY SIGHT WHERE 3000 INNOCENT AMERICANS DIED ON THAT FATEFUL MORNING? I ASK YOU LISA, "WHAT IS HE THINKING!!!!" BILL HAMILTON.

HI FOLKS, LIKE I TOLD ANNE, I REMEMBER WHEN THE "BIG FITZ", WENT DOWN. IT IS BELIEVED THAT SHE STRUCK A SUBMERGED REEF NEAR 6 FATHOM SHOALS. SHE WAS HEAVILY LADENED,WITH IRON ORE PELLETS, THE HATCHES WERE NOT PROPERLY "DOGGED DOWN", SHE WAS TAKING ON WATER, WITH A 15 DEGREE STARBOARD LIST, HER RADAR WAS OUT, RADIO ANTENNA'S BLOWN OFF BY 100 KNOT WINDS, AND THEN SHE WAS HIT FROM BEHIND, BY A MASSIVE ROGUE WAVE, AND BROKE IN HALF. TRAGICALLY, SHE WENT DOWN, WITHIN SIGHT OF THE WHITE FISH BAY LIGHTHOUSE,WHICH WAS OUT THAT NIGHT. IRONICALLY, MY DAD, SAILED THAT VERY SAME ROUTE, WHEN HE SAILED THE GREAT LAKES. Go for it Bill, it definitrly would be an amazing tribute. There 's a Canadian show called Dive Detectives, that investigate shipwrecks, and they determined that what sunk the Fitz was a rogue wave , and that it apparently had nothing to do with the hatch covers, but i guess we will never realy know for sure. But thanks to Gordon Lightfoot for writing the song, it has helped keep the memory of these men alive, it has now become legend, and future generations will always remember.
When 9/11 happened we were all in shock, i remember where i was when i heard the news, still can't believe that people can do things like this. So many innocents lost for nothing, peolple like this are animals.
