There lies a castle made of ice, as grand and mystical looking as one out of a fairy tale — but this castle was built in our reality, and in Silverthorne, Colorado. The work of ice artist Brent Christensen, this castle, along with accompanying frozen towers and structures, was created by hand using 3 million gallons of icy water and an ice sculpting method that Christensen has patented. This is his third public ice castle after all, after having built quite a following amongst locals and visitors to the region. Previous castles were in his home state of Utah.
For an admission fee ($10 adults, $7.50 children), the Ice Castles invites visitors to walk in and around its tunnels and caverns, day or night. After sunset may be preferable though, for 200 florescent lights line the ice walls and towers, creating a glowing, surreal experience.
